Arrival
Los ging es mit meinem Abenteuer abends am 30. August am Frankfurter Flughafen. Nach
vierstündigem Flug landete ich in Dubai, wo ich ein paar Stunden in den Duty
free stores verbrachte und das Gate für meinen Anschlussflug suchen durfte. Da
der dortige Flughafen riesig ist, habe ich um die zwanzig Minuten gebraucht, um
zum richtigen Gate zu gelangen. Zum Glück konnte ich Bekanntschaft mit
deutschen Backpackern machen, dank deren Hilfe stellte dies kein Problem dar ;)
Nach einer weiteren Ewigkeit im Flugzeug, die ich, dank der großartig
ausgestatteten Boeings von Emirates, mit Filme schauen verbrachte, landete ich
nach insgesamt zwei Tagen Reise am Dienstag, den 1. September in Australien,
Sydney um genauer zu sein.
My great
adventure started on 30th of August at Frankfurt airport in the evening. After
a four hour flight I landed in Dubai, where I spend some hours in Duty free
stores and searched the gate for myconnection flight. The airport there is so
huge that I needed twenty minutes to find the right gate. Fortunately I met
some german backpackers who helped me finding it (otherwise I would have needed
much longer). After another eternity on the plane I finally landed after two
days of journey on Tuesday, 1st of September, in Australia, to be
more exact, in Sydney.

Ach ich weiß gar nicht,
wo ich anfangen soll… Sydney ist fantastisch! Trotz des unerwartet kühlen Frühlingswetters
konnte ich schon einiges in Sydney entdecken. Ein Muss: Das Opera House. Direkt
vom Circular Quay aus sichtbar, sodass man gar nicht drumherum kommt! Ganz in
der Nähe, genauer gesagt, einmal um die Ecke, befinden sich die Royal Botanic
Gardens, mit super schöner Kulisse, auf jeden Fall einen Besuch wert (wenn nicht sogar mehrere…die Gartenanlage ist einfach
riesig).
Well, I don’t
know where to start…. Sydney is just
awesome! Despite the unexpected cold spring weather, I was able to explore some
spots in Sydney. A must
see: the famous Opera House. Flush against the Cirular Quay, it’s visible right
from the station, it’s impossible to overlook. Very nearby, to be precise, just
around the corner, you can find the Royal Botanic Gardens, with its beautiful
scenery :) it
is worth visiting (even more than one time as it is so giant).

Um Bekanntschaft mit ein
paar „Einheimischen“ zu machen, empfehle ich den Featherdale Wildlife Park, wo
man nicht nur Kangaroos füttern kann, sondern auch Koalas ganz nah kommt. Ein
tolles Erlebnis :D (Und der Souvenirshop ist klasse ;)
To meet up
with some „natives“ I can totally recommend going to the Featherdale WildlifePark, where it’s possible to feed kangaroos and get very close to koalas. A
great experience (and the souvenir shop is class ;)

Um mehr von der City zu
sehen, besorgte ich mir eine Opal Card und los ging es ins CBD (Central
Business District), wobei v.a. die Nutzung sonntags zu empfehlen ist, da an
Sonntagen nur einmalig 2,50 $ abgerechnet werden, an allen weiteren Tagen wird
nach Distanz bezahlt. Mit einer Ausgabe von „What’s on in Sydney“ im Gepäck,
die neben allerhand Coupons und Vergünstigungen auch eine Karte vom CBD
enthält, machte ich mich auf, Sydney genauer unter die Lupe zu nehmen. Ich kann
hierbei nur wärmstens den Besuch der Australian Opal Cutters & Pearl Divers
empfehlen. Neben dem Kauf von wunderschönen Opalen und Südseeperlen, konnte ich auch einiges über Opale lernen (Auch
wenn der Eingangsbereich nicht auf den ersten Blick zu finden ist und die
Eingangstür mit dahinterliegendem Securitybereich etwas abschreckend
wirkt, ein Besuch lohnt sich allemal!)
To see some
more from the city itself, I got myself an Opal card and went to the CBD, whereby I can recommend using the
card on Sundays as it costs only once 2,50$ for the whole day, all other days
you have to pay by distance. However, with an edition of “What’s on in Sydney”
in my bag, which has besides a lot of coupons and benefits also a map of the
CBD, I set out to check out Sydney. I really can recommend to visit the
Australian Opal Cutters & Pearl Divers. Besides buying beautiful jewelry I
was able to learn a bit about opals (don’t hesitate going there, the entrance
may not be found at first view and the entry door with its security area behind
might act as a deterrent, but a visit is worthwhile!)
