DIY - Galaxy-Quote-Picture

Some time ago I found the following quote by Einstein. Since then I can’t get it out of my head. It is so simple but profound, but anyhow I never thought about it this way…

I use this as motivation to keep on working, so therefore I created a picture to always remember myself. For the background I’ve chosen a galaxy nebula, which I painted with water colours.

What I needed for this picture:

• Watercolour paper
• Liquid mask
• (Washi) Tape
• Water colours
• Patience, due to the amount of colour layers ;)

First, I’ve sketched out the quote and put the liquid mask over to cover these parts (so they’ll stay white). For the edges I used washi tape as cover whereby I’ve tried out before on another sheet of paper, if the washi tape I used would hold the colour back. You can probably use another kind of tape, as long as it is removable. Anyway, I would recommend to try it out before. Well, that’s it for preparation: Now you can apply several layers of colours, but be careful, to let each layer dry before you apply the next one over it. When you’re satisfied with the colour combo, you can add as last step the stars by using either a paintbrush or a toothbrush to sprinkle the white dots (oh, maybe I should mention to cover your work place as otherwise there will be white spots everywhere). Last step is to remove the washi tape and the mask and – voilà you’ve got a galaxy-quote-picture :)

Vor einiger Zeit habe ich das folgende Zitat von Einstein gelesen, was mir seitdem nicht mehr aus dem Kopf geht. Es ist so simpel und fundamental, und doch denkt man nicht wirklich dran:

Da ein wenig Motivation nicht schaden kann, habe ich den Spruch in einem Bild verarbeitet.

Für dieses Galaxy-Quote-Bild habe ich gebraucht:

•  Aquarellpapier
• Rubbelkrepp
• (Washi)Tape
• Wasserfarben
•  Ein bisschen Geduld ;) wegen der zahlreichen Farbschichten

Zuerst habe ich sicherheitshalber den Spruch vorgezeichnet und anschließend mit Rubbelkrepp-Farbe ausgemalt bzw. überdeckt, damit diese Stellen weiß bleiben. Für den Rand habe ich Washi-Tape benutzt, allerdings habe ich vorher auf einem separaten Blatt ausprobiert, ob es die Farbe ebenfalls zurückhält. Bestimmt kann man auch anderes Tape benutzen, welches wieder entfernbar ist, aber probiert es am besten vorher auf einem anderen Blatt aus. Dann ging es ans Aquarellmalen: Dazu habe ich zahlreiche Schichten Farbe aufgetragen, wobei hierbei darauf zu achten ist, dass eine Schicht komplett trocken ist, bevor die nächste aufgetragen wird. Wenn man mit den Farbverläufen zufrieden ist, kommen mit Hilfe einer Zahnbürste oder eines Pinsels die Sterne dazu (draufsprenkeln oder malen, beim Sprenkeln nicht vergessen euren Arbeitsplatz mit etwas zu bedecken, sonst ist am Ende alles voller weißer Flecken). Zum Schluss wird das Washi-Tape und Rubbelkrepp entfernt – und fertig ist das Galaxy-Quote-Bild :)

The problem case -before

Short story: I’ve ruined my pants last summer with raspberries. Don’t ask me how. There was just out of nowhere this red-raspberry-coloured spot. I tried everything to get it out with the result of a white spot instead (awesome, right? :/). However, lucky me, this year’s trend are patches and I’ve found some at Stradivarius. I used them to cover up the white spot. Actually it was easy, I just had to iron them on ;)

Letzten Sommer habe ich meine schöne Hose mit Himbeerflecken ruiniert. Keine Ahnung wie mir das gelungen ist, auf einmal war da dieser rote-Himbeerfarbene Fleck. Ich habe wirklich alles versucht und im Endeffekt auch die Farbe rausbekommen. Mit dem Ergebnis, dass ich stattdessen dann einen weißen Fleck hatte (echt super :/). Glücklicherweise liegen dieses Jahr ja Patches im Trend, sodass ich mir ein Pack Patches von Stradivarius gekauft habe. Im Prinzip muss man sie nur aufbügeln, wo immer man sie auch haben möchte ;)

DIY - Sleep mask beautification

Einschlafen kann ich nur im Dunkeln. Zu Hause kann man hierfür das Zimmer abdunkeln, auf Reisen hingegen wird das manchmal schwierig. Deshalb nehme ich immer eine Schlafmaske mit. Sei es im Flugzeug, Bus, Auto oder auch im Hotelzimmer, mit Licht kann ich einfach nicht schlafen. Da ich das Aussehen meiner Schlafmaske etwas langweilig fand, hier eine Idee, sie ein wenig aufzuhübschen.

 

Material:

   -Schlafmaske

      -Textilfarbe

      -Paillettenband oder anderes Band/Borten

      -Eine Schleife oder andere Verzierungen zum Annähen

Zuerst habe ich die beiden Wimpern mit Textilfarbe aufgezeichnet. Nachdem diese getrocknet waren (je nach Anleitung auf Flasche die Textilfarbe fixieren, eventuell noch bügeln dafür), wurde das Paillettenband außen aufgenäht. Zum Schluss kam noch eine Schleife dazu – und schon sieht meine Schlafmaske ganz anders aus! 

I only can fall asleep in the dark. At home, I can darken the room, but on a journey, this might be difficult to do. Therefore I always take my sleep mask with me when I’m away, otherwise I couldn’t sleep in airplanes, busses, cars or sometimes in even hotel rooms, as it is too bright for me to fall asleep. As my sleep mask looked a bit boring, here’s an idea how to glam it up.

You’ll need:

    -A sleep mask

       -Textile color

       -Sequin lace or other lace

       -A ribbon or other decorations to sew on

First I’ve used the textile color to paint the lashes. After the color has dried (follow the guidance on the textile color how to fix it, sometimes you need to iron it), I’ve sewed the sequin lace around the mask. In the end, I’ve also fixed the ribbon – so my sleep mask looks totally different now!
